Mary Attwell was born in Barnes in 1859 and lived there until her death in 1933. Although physically handicapped from birth, Mary worked all her life on behalf of the poorer sections of Barnes community, with a particular interest in education. Her memoirs have bed edited by Nicholas Dakin into this highly readable book, profusely illustrated with photographs from the period and delightful drawings by Valerie Knight, who also provided the cover drawing shown opposite. Includes a chapter by Maisie Brown on the Attwell family. 96pp.
